Deutsche Post Global Mail launches a new product for international mail distribution
The GLOBALMATCH mail distribution service, just launched by Deutsche Post Global Mail and its partners, is a cost-effective, fast and secure solu-tion for the bulk transportation of international mail.
Other public postal operators (PPOs) can take advantage of the significant transportation discounts which the international mail giant is able to negotiate. And the PPOs also benefit from the IT-based processes within both Deutsche Post Global Mail’s hub network and its partners’ facilities.

What is GLOBALMATCH?
MATCH stands for Mail Transportation through Consolidation Hubs. By consoli-dating mail consignments from many different mail streams, GLOBALMATCH is able to obtain bulk transportation rates at more advantageous prices than the individual operators could negotiate for themselves.
The GLOBALMATCH Hubs are strategically located at or near major airport fa-cilities with excellent road access. International mail can therefore be fed quickly and conveniently into a worldwide transportation network, that is managed by Deutsche Post Global Mail and its partners.
GLOBALMATCH offers security and transparency through the use of state-of-the-art technology. International mail can therefore be comprehensively moni-tored, from acceptance at the hub right throughout the journey.
The Mail Hubs offering GLOBALMATCH capability so far are in Frankfurt, Lon-don and Dubai. More are in preparation.
The GLOBALMATCH process
Once a contract has been made, all the customer needs to do is bring their in-ternational mail to the Mail Hub according to UPU (Universal Postal Union) regu-lations. Transport arrangements can also be made by GLOBALMATCH, utilizing one of its partners such as DHL. Some GLOBALMATCH-specific information added to the documentation and tags is also necessary to allow identification of the incoming shipment. Once in the Mail Hub, GLOBALMATCH takes full re-sponsibility for its rapid and safe onward transportation.
The process consists of the following main stages:
– Scanning is the first process after acceptance of the customer’s mail at the Mail Hub. The scanning process generates all the necessary documentation tags and labels, as well as routing and billing data.
– The mail is then consolidated with other mail. Bulk purchasing of mail trans-portation capacity means lower costs for every part of the total consignment.
– Before loading, the mail is scanned again to provide the data needed for complete transparency in the mail’s onward transportation.
– The hub supervisor checks priorities and free capacity before ULD (Unified Loading Device) pick-up by the airline handling agent or handover to the transportation company.
High technology at the customer’s service
GLOBALMATCH offers complete transparency of service and transport. Track and Trace of each mailbag is standard and in future this will be possible via the Internet, giving direct online access to the customer’s data.
The distribution and sorting technology is also state-of-the-art. Electronic data processes ensure high standards of control, monitoring and reliability.
The GLOBALMATCH Hubs are all located at or near a major airport. This means that no time is lost due to long distances and detours, while transportation costs are kept to a minimum.
