Emirates Post and Somal Post sign agreement to establish money transfer and mail services

Emirates Post and Somal Post, the national postal corporation of Somalia, have signed an agreement to handle money transfer, letters and parcels between the UAE and Somalia.
The new postal services between the two countries, which will be available from July 1, 2003, at 72 post offices of Emirates Post, will meet the requirements of the 75,000 Somalis residing in the UAE. The agreement envisages delivery of mail to the major Somali cities of Mogadishu, Hargeisa, Bossano and Galkayo.

The Emirates Post’s mail transit hub at Dubai airport will be used to dispatch mail bound for Somalia, as well as forward mail originating from Somalia to the UK, Netherlands, Sweden, Italy, Switzerland, Canada and UAE.

Details of the services were announced at a press conference addressed by Mr. Abdulla Al Daboos, Director General of Emirates Post and Dr. Hassan O. Omar, CEO of Somal Post Corporation, in Dubai today, in the presence of Mr. Sharif Ahmed Sharif, President, Sasco Logistic Ltd. and Mr. Deqa Ismail, Operation Director, Somal Post and Sasco Logistic Ltd.

“We are delighted to establish these postal services between Somalia and UAE and hope they will provide attractive opportunities for strengthening contacts between families and friends through the facilities for money transfer and dispatch of mail and parcels,” said Mr. Al Daboos. “These services are being launched as a response to a demand from our customers. The agreement was preceded by a series of discussions to work out attractive deals with high standards of customer service.”

“The agreement lays the foundation for a strong postal relationship between Emirates Post and Somal Post and reflects our role to provide top-class services in response to customer demand. Our endeavour is to cater to the demand of people of different nationalities, and offer services that meet their requirements and budgets, supported by our vast network of post offices. Our strategies are focused on generating new sources of revenue and diversifying and developing our services further, as part of our goal of emerging as a leading postal corporation in the region.”
