Deutsche Post World Net invests steadily in mail and parcel processing
EUR 90m order package to Siemens improves processes
Deutsche Post continues to steadily modernise its mail and parcel processing in Germany. For this Siemens Dematic delivers hardware and software components enhancing the letter and parcel handling processes.
Dr Frank Appel, a member of Deutsche Post World Net’s Management Board and responsible for Corporate Services, and Johann Löttner, Chairman of Siemens Dematic’s Board of Management, signed an extensive contract package in Bonn, Germany. The total investment volume is approximately EUR 90m for the next two years.
The new software will increase the reading rate in the mail sorting centres by approximately a further eight percent. With the installation Deutsche Post has come a large step closer to its objective of being able to read almost 100% of letters automatically. Technically greatly advanced machine equipment has also further modernised the redirection process. Siemens is also delivering 200 carrier sequence bar code sorters. The use of address readers for parcels is being increased.
‘By continually investing in state-of-the-art software and hardware Deutsche Post can sustainably increase its productivity and offer excellent quality,’ said Dr Appel during the signing of the contracts. ‘This is an important factor for our overall strategy to become the number one in logistics,’ continued Dr Appel.
