DPWN sets sights on China and India

According to Deutsche Post’s Chief Executive Klaus Zumwinkel, China and India could be the next major targets for acquisitions by the company. However although money was available to make purchases, he also commented that there were only a limited number of eligible companies to buy, especially in the Asia Pacific region, and that the company may have to focus on organic growth.

Mr Zumwinkel also ruled out further purchases in Europe and the USA which are in the process undergoing a period of integration and consolidation. This could cost the company between €1.5bn and €3bn as networks and operations are rationalised. In the USA, a new management team including Richard Metzler (formerly CEO of APL Logistics) has been appointed to oversee the combined operations of Airborne and DHL.

Meanwhile, as part of its strategic relationship with Lufthansa, DHL Danzas Air and Ocean has announced that it has developed a temperature controlled door-to-door service specifically for the Life Science industry. The companies commented that this was likely to be an initial step towards a joint venture.
