Severe weather conditions hit UK post and parcel deliveries

The severe weather conditions affecting much of the UK are taking their toll on post and parcel deliveries.

Royal Mail suspended some services yesterday (1 March) and its General Overview service update published this morning said that the disruptions would continue today.

“Our mails distribution network was disrupted by the wintry conditions last night and this has adversely affected on the movement of mail around the country, and hence the availability of mail for delivery today in many parts,” said Royal Mail.

“We’ll be out delivering and collecting mail today, but only in areas where access is possible and it’s safe for our people to perform them.

“We’re doing all we can to maintain services at a near-normal level and would like to apologise to customers whose mail deliveries and collections have been affected by the severe weather conditions.”

Royal Mail also reported that it is currently unable to guarantee next day delivery of Special Delivery items posted from yesterday.

“We continue to accept and prioritise the delivery of Special Delivery items at this time and will reinstate the delivery guarantee as soon as we are confident we can meet this service promise for all customers,” the company added.

Other delivery companies include UPS, DPD and UK Mail have also warned that there will be delays in some UK regions. The worst affected areas include the southwest of England and Scotland.
