NYK to re-brand UCI and New Wave

NYK Group, owner of the Japanese shipping line NYK Lines, has announced its decision to re-brand all of its global logistics subsidiaries as NYK Logistics with effect from January 1st 2004.

In Europe the company re-structured its organisation earlier in the year under the NYK Logistics banner, but its individual operating units were left unaffected.

In the UK New Wave will become NYK Logistics (UK) Consumer & Retail Ltd and UCI will become NYK Logistics (UK) Manufacturing & Retail Ltd. The combined revenue of both divisions is put at £230m (€322m). However management has stressed that for the time being the two companies will continue to operate independently.

Throughout the rest of Europe – Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Spain and Sweden – NYK logistics activities have historically been undertaken under the New Wave brand.

The re-branding of NYK’s subsidiaries throughout Europe is part of a strategic plan which was launched in December 2003. Its aim is to continue the development of the group from its shipping roots into a comprehensive logistics provider. This year has seen European acquisitions and new operational initiatives to support this goal.
