Independent Pilots Association Still Waiting for UPS to Deliver Counter Proposals after Second Round of Mediated Talks

The Independent Pilots Association came into the second round of mediated negotiations expecting counter proposals from United Parcel Service, but as the talks concluded last night the pilots were still waiting for UPS to deliver.

“UPS had seven weeks to respond to the detailed scheduling, retirement and compensation proposals we gave them back in August, but they showed up this week empty handed,” said Capt. Tom Nicholson, President of the Independent Pilots Association. He went on to say, “The ball was in UPS’s court and they chose not to play.”

The one area of the contract where an agreement was reached this week was a scheduling subsection on commercial airline tickets.

The third round of National Mediation Board supervised negotiations between the pilots and UPS will begin on Monday, October 18 in Cincinnati. “UPS now has two more weeks to review our detailed proposals. Our pilots did the heavy lift creating the opening positions now all UPS needs to do is respond in kind,” said Nicholson.

This week the National Mediation Board set out dates for the forth and fifth rounds of mediated talks between UPS and the IPA. They are November 1 – 4 and December 13 – 16 both to be held in Cincinnati.
