TNT Mail wins 5 UK customers in 1st 3 mths
TNT Mail, the main challenger to Royal Mail in the UK deregulated postal market, said it has secured five customers in its fist three months of operation.
New clients include Sky, Caudwell Communications, Express Gifts, and Booker, all of which will operate under TNT Mail’s downstream access agreement with Royal Mail.
This is in addition to its 20 existing customers.
Since the access agreement with Royal Mail went live in August 2004, TNT Mail is now handling nearly 1 million items every week.
Through the existing customer base TNT Mail expects to handle over 200 million items in 2005 but will exceed this volume as new clients come on stream. TNT Mail said it is currently conducting a number of trials with customers and is in talks with several prospective clients for both downstream access and end-to-end delivery.

TNT Mail has revealed a raft of new business clients as it attempts to challenge Royal Mail in the deregulated postal market.
BSkyB, Caudwell Communications, Express Gifts and Booker are among the companies that will operate under TNT Mail’s downstream access agreement (PM April 9).
TNT – the UK arm of Dutch postal operator TPG – has been working with BSkyB since August, and now handles seven of the company’s mailstreams.
TNT Mail expects to handle more than 200 million items for its existing customer base this year.
The postal operator claims that it is the only market entrant which provides an end-to-end delivery service, through its relationship with Express Dairies. It says the deal gives it the potential to reach 6 million households (PM June 11).
TNT Mail chief executive Nick Wells says: “It’s great news that we’ve clinched the BSkyB deal. It’s a good platform for growth, and shows that we’re delivering what we promised.
“Prospective customers have confidence in our size, scale, resources and heritage as the world’s most efficient postal operator.”
Kevin Trever, procurement manager for marketing and print at Sky, comments: “We have been extremely impressed with TNT Mail’s service.
“Over the last three months it has met all our expectations and offered an effective two-day service for a sizeable piece of our business.”
