Germany's Trans-o-flex invests EUR 12m in new parcels centre
German express parcels and pallets carrier Trans-o-flex is investing € 12.5 million in a new sorting centre in Alzenau, south-east of Frankfurt, to extend its national network. The ground-breaking ceremony took place on May 16.
The new facility, which is expected to enter service in April 2007, will create 60 to 70 full-time and 30 to 40 part-time jobs. Located on an area of 36,668 sqm, the first building stage of the handling terminal will cover 7,994 sqm, with a further 872 sqm for office space.
Linehaul trucks and local delivery traffic can dock at 100 gates. The centre is laid out for automated sorting of both packages and palletised goods. A significant proportion of the € 12.5 million investment is going into state-of-the-art sorting equipment.
“The new centre in Alzenau with its additional sorting space, optimised processes, significant potential for extension and excellent transport links will help us increase the efficiency of the Trans-o-flex network and strengthen our market position,” said Wolfgang Weber, the company’s head of operations.
The sorting centre, which is being built in cooperation with two property specialists, is tailor-made to meet the needs of trans-o-flex customers. “We are creating ideal conditions for further growth, as we can sort more goods than before, but in a shorter time,” Weber continued, “so our customers can expect unique value for money in future, too, despite rising external costs.”
To cope with long-term volume growth, trans-o-flex has secured extension possibilities for the centre. Thanks to an extension area of 896 sqm., the hall can grow and with it the sorting capacity. Up to 32 additional gates will then ensure speedy loading and unloading.
