Firesend web booker goes under
Firesend.com, the web-based parcel booking exchange, ceased trading on Tuesday last week.
The company?s website said: ?We regret to inform customers that the Firesend service is not currently available.
The service will not be available again before Monday, 19 February, 2001 at the earliest.? Chief executive and strategy development director Lawrence Evans confirmed that the company had ceased trading but refused to comment further.
Firesend had a commercial arrangement with Lynx Express and Amtrak, and was hoping to handle some 10,000 movements a month by the end of this year.
A Lynx spokesman said: ?Quite a number of trial shipments had come through us.
The software was up and running.
?But most of the shipments were from companies associated with Firesend, rather than free-market customers.
?We believe that this type of exchange has a future in the market place.
We would like to see Firesend continue trading.? Firesend was backed by venture capitalist Speed Ventures.
The company refused to comment.
