UPS will close its next-day sorting operation in Columbia, South Carolina next month, eliminating 250 part-time positions.
UPS will close its next-day sorting operation in Columbia, South Carolina next month, eliminating 250 part-time positions.
The shipping company said all of the workers at the Columbia metropolitan airport facility will be offered jobs at other UPS operations in the area.
UPS spokesman Norman Black says the economy has causing fewer customers to pay to have packages shipped overnight.
Black also says service will not be affected, with next-day delivery items being routed through the company’s main hub in Louisville, Kentucky.
