UPS Embraces Proposed Americas Free Trade Agreement

U.S.-based package delivery company United Parcel Service (UPS) is preparing for what it believes will be a virtual “avalanche” of international express freight when a proposed Americas Free Trade Agreement embracing the entire Western Hemisphere goes into effect. Countries around the Americas are working toward the goal of signing the agreement in 2005.

The company’s activities include acquiring local freight carriers, investing in logistical technology and stepping up flight schedules. “There will be more trade in the Americas and UPS is concerned now with building the infrastructure and capacity to serve this macro market as it grows,” UPS Vice President of Marketing for Mexico and Latin America John Menna said.
