Changes anger posties
AUSTRALIA Post workers across NSW are today expected to consider industrial
action over job changes which they say have led to complaints of declining mail
service standards.
Communication, Electrical and Plumbing Union postal branch secretary Jim
Metcher said 200 postal worker representatives would meet to consider action
over moves to contract out permanent jobs.
Mr Metcher said Australia Post had moved three postmen in the Stockton delivery
centre in Newcastle from their permanent positions, and converted the positions
to contract work.
He said one postman had delivered mail in the Stockton area for 36 years and
had been removed from his job to work part time in the Newcastle mail centre.
