Esipost To Launch New E-Pay Products

Esipost To Launch New E-Pay Products
From THE ONLINE REPORTER, September 10th, 2001

Esipost, the wholly owned subsidiary of the French post office La
Poste carved out of its e-commerce division to interface between its
various divisions and the external business world, is gearing up to
introduce a new set of products aimed at brick-and-mortar merchants
looking to sell online. Included are a suite of online financial
products and package tracking services. First up is an online payment processing service delivered by
leveraging La Poste’s financial products portfolio. La Poste is also
a bank with 44 million private and corporate accounts. This service will initially provide online credit card processing
for businesses of all sizes. Options including a credit card number-
masking feature allowing customers to shop on the web and mobile
payment services will follow. For consumers, Esipost is working on an e-mail-based payment service
like PayPal and US Postal Service’s Send Money. Pricing for the new payment services was not disclosed. Esipost wants to introduce the credit card processing product by the
end of the year but no date has been set for the others. It is also
working on extending the capabilities of its online track-and-trace
service to packages. Currently, the service is limited to express
mail and regular letters. Last month, Esipost introduced its Axepro services for small and
medium enterprises (OLR No 262), which is getting a positive
response. There are rich pickings in the SME segment – only about
3,000 of the 170,000 of those in France are currently selling
online.THE ONLINE REPORTER, 10th September 2001
