First threat of a strike at La Poste

Yesterday the SUD-PTT union at French post office La Poste issued a warning to strike on 2 January over the conditions of the switch to euro notes and coins. The union, which represents 20 per cent of votes at professional elections, has appealed to other unions, although it also says there is still time to find a solution to the conflict.

La Poste intends to hire 3,000 temporary workers between 13 December and 16 February, and use 1,000 young employees and those who have taken early retirement, in order to cope with the increased activity. “There will necessarily be an additional workload, and we are demanding a bonus of 1,200 euros” says SUD.
