Unions fear Tesco move into post offices
Through its One Stop convenience chain, the UK’s biggest retailer has been taking part in the ‘Post Office Local’ pilot. Tesco could become a major player in a restructured Post Office – handing out pensions and benefit payments – as a government sponsored cost-cutting drive looks to replace traditional counters with a cheaper service offered at the checkouts of convenience stores.
Through its One Stop convenience chain, the UK’s biggest retailer has been taking part in the Post Office Local pilot which sees traditional fortress counters replaced by a hybrid till service where staff in shops and petrol stations juggle mail and bill payments alongside baskets of groceries.
