PostNL introduces online credit check service
PostNL has launched a new facility that allows its commercial clients to run quick identity checks of their customers in real time. The Dutch postal service said people increasingly wanted to buy products and services through an account, and the new online customer acceptance service would make this more attractive, particularly when ordering items online.
The service operates online and in real time, checking a customer’s name and address, and whether they have ever been involved in bankruptcy proceedings.
PostNL clients, including online merchants, can then decided quickly whether to allow their customers to make purchases through an account.
The new facility comes as part of the credit management service PostNL launched last year, which offers to provide the entire billing transaction process for a merchant, from checking a purchase, providing a credit check, and accepting customers through to invoicing, credit management and payment collection.
The overall service makes the most of PostNL’s existing databases, and uses communications channels including phone, text messages and email as well as the traditional mail.
Kees van den Heuvel, director of billing and document solutions at PostNL, said: “Online customer acceptance is a nice addition to our credit management chain. Commercial customers increasingly wish to have their whole credit management dealt with within a single chain and by a single party.
“The integrated service makes things clearer and cheaper for them.”
