An Post upgrades tracking system in deal with Zetes

Ireland’s An Post has completed a roll out of electronic proof of delivery mobile computers for all 4,200 delivery staff. The postal service is using a 100% paperless track and trace system provided by Brussels-based Zetes, using Intermec’s CN50 mobile devices.

The system means senders will be able to receive automatic delivery confirmation within two hours of delivery, and check that a parcel or letter has arrived via An Post’s website.

An Post sees the system as particularly important as it seeks to compete in the delivery of online retail purchases.

Zetes said An Post was the first national postal operator in the world to equip its entire delivery workforce – on foot, bicycle or van – with handheld scanners to confirm, track and trace deliveries and collections in real time.

The project has been part of An Post’s ongoing change management strategy, as the company seeks to improve the overall customer delivery experience and automate the proof of delivery process.

Liam O’Sullivan, mails operations director at An Post, said: “As the volume of ecommerce transactions continues to rise, being able to offer this level of service to all our customers for deliveries or returns is a big differentiator for us.”

Fully managed

With the new Intermec CN50 system, senders will be able to access delivery confirmations in as little as two hours after delivery

An Post delivers around 2.5m items of mail each day to 2.1m business and residential addresses.

In its Electronic Proof of Delivery (ePOD) solution, Zetes is providing a fully managed service including software, hardware and ongoing support for field-based workers.

The three-year managed service agreement with An Post will include weekday end user support from the Zetes Service Desk, next day exchange and hardware maintenance for the Intermec CN50 devices, remote device management, application support and IT service management.

Alain Wirtz, the Zetes chief executive, said: “This project highlights the importance, for postal companies, of investing in highly advanced technological solutions in order to remain competitive.

“In making this investment, An Post is equipping its business operation to offer a superior service with which they can maintain and enhance their market position.”
