DoorDash branches out into delivering tech gadgets

DoorDash, the company best known for its on-demand food delivery service, has branched out into the tech gadget market through a partnership with b8ta. New start-up b8ta, which launched its bricks-and-mortar retail store in Palo Alto earlier this month, sells “innovative” toys, games and robots and high-tech gadgets like the Gi Flybike folding electric bicycle.

“While our focus is still on restaurant delivery, we regularly test partnerships with retailers and other local merchants outside of the food space, both on a national level and on a market by market basis,” a DoorDash spokesperson told the high-tech news website, TechCrunch.

It appears that b8ta may be running the on-demand delivery service with DoorDash as a special holiday promotion and it will be restricted to Palo Alto and parts of Menlo Park. There is a flat fee charge of $5.99.
