Google reportedly looking to sell Boston Dynamics
Google is reportedly looking to sell its robotics subsidiary Boston Dynamics. A report published by Bloomberg on Thursday (17 March) said that the internet giant wants to offload the robotics company because it doesn’t believe it is likely to have a marketable product in the next few years. Bloomberg said its information came from “two people familiar with the company’s plans”.
Boston Dynamics recently posted a video showing one of its robots completing a number of tasks, including picking up boxes and stacking them on shelves. Post&Parcel was not alone in noting that the robot’s functionality might be applicable to fulfilment centres and the logistics industry generally.
The Bloomberg article also quoted a source as saying that possible buyers for Boston Dynamics included the Toyota Research Institute and – because of the fulfilment centre link – Amazon.com.
