Amazon opening new fulfilment centres in Illinois and California

Amazon has announced that it will be opening two new Californian fulfilment centres in Tracy and Eastvale, as well as a second fulfilment centre in Joliet, Illinois. The new facilities in Tracy and Eastvale will increase Amazon’s Californian presence to nine fulfilment centres, nine million square feet of operations and approximately 14,000 full-time hourly associates. Amazon’s existing seven Golden State Amazon fulfilment centres are located in Tracy, Patterson, Moreno Valley, Redlands, Rialto and San Bernardino. The company also operates sortation centres in Newark and San Bernardino.

At the new Eastvale location, Amazon associates will pick, pack and ship smaller customer items, such as books, electronics and toys. While at the Tracy facility, the second in the city, associates will pick, pack and ship larger customer items, such as big-screen televisions, sports equipment and patio furniture.

Over in Illinois, staff at the new 700,000 square-foot Joliet fulfilment centre will be focusing on smaller items.
