Omniva to install solar panels on new logistics centre
Omniva has announced that it plans to install solar panels on the roof of its new logistics centre that will supply around half of the building’s energy needs.
“A significant criterion in designing and building the new logistics centre was its environmental friendliness and energy efficiency. We are pleased to announce that our new logistics centre will largely operate on renewable energy,” said Joona Saluveer, Chairman of the Management Board of Omniva.
The planned logistics centre, which will cover an area of approximately 13,000 square metres, is located near Tallinn and is scheduled to be finished in November 2018. It will handle all parcels and letters sent to, within, and from Estonia.
The construction of the new logistics centre entails the largest investment Omniva has ever made: when the cost of the sorting technology is included the overall figure is €17.2m.
Underlining its commitment to green logistics, Omniva added that it started testing electric mopeds for mail carriers last year and now, “in the near future, the company plans to pilot electric vans suitable for last-mile deliveries”.
