DHL appoints Kelvin Leung as Chief Operating Officer for its Global Forwarding business in Asia Pacific

DHL the appointment of Kelvin Leung as the Chief Operating Officer of DHL Global Forwarding Asia Pacific, and a member of the company’s Asia Pacific Management Board. He assumes the newly-created position with immediate effect and will report to Peter Landsiedel, CEO, Asia Pacific, DHL Global Forwarding.

Kelvin is responsible for managing and directing the business unit’s activities in the region, in collaboration with the sub-regional and functional leaders. The heads of the airfreight and ocean freight businesses will report directly to him.

Prior to this appointment, Kelvin was Vice President of DHL Global Forwarding for Hong Kong, South China and Macau, where he was responsible for the long-term strategic planning, sales and operations as well as business development of the regional DHL Global Forwarding logistics markets. Since joining DHL in 2002, Kelvin played an instrumental role in making the company the market leader, and more than doubling the size of DHL Global Forwarding’s business in this region.

Kelvin graduated from the University of Cambridge, Magdalene College, with a Masters in General Engineering Science. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Hong Kong.

DHL in drug distribution deal

DHL Global Forwarding is to distribute albendazole, a drug used in the prevention of Lymphatic Filariasis also known as elephantiasis, for GlaxoSmithKline on a not for profit agreement basis.

As part of a commitment to eliminate LF, GSK has opened a GBP 1.5m manufacturing facility in Cape Town, South Africa to produce albendazole. GSK is partnering with DHL Global Forwarding to manage global distribution. The operation is based at its Cape Town distribution centre.

GSK has donated more than 600 million treatments free of charge to stop the transmission of this disease.

Over the past three and a half years, DHL Global Forwarding has worked with GSK to distribute albendazole to 36 countries.

Emirates joins DHL air cargo security partnership

Emirates Group and DHL Global Forwarding, have signed a memorandum of understanding in air cargo security. Emirates Airline is one of the first airline partners to join this security programme, initiated by DHL Global Forwarding.
The aim of the partnership programme is to initiate standard operating procedures for high-value and high-risk air cargo. Emirates and DHL will share best practices and information on crime trends and jointly lobby towards authorities.

“The Emirates Group has always been committed to strengthening security throughout the handling chain. This programme embodies the symbiotic relationship between major players and stakeholders in the cargo industry,” commented Dr Abdulla Al Hashimi, divisional senior vice-president Emirates Group Security.

Robert Larson, senior vice-president and head of global security DHL Logistics added: “We are glad to welcome Emirates Group Security in our security partnership programme. Now we can combine our expertise and can contribute more efficiently to making the global supply chain more secure.”
