Thiel Logistik sells stake in DPD Austria to GeoPost

GeoPost, Europe’s third largest provider of express and deferred parcels services, has reached an agreement to acquire Thiel Logistik AG’s 25.5% stake in DPD Austria. These shares were originally held by non-depositary partner companies Birkart, Dachser and Nathe & Quehenberger, with each holding equal stakes. The share purchase price has not been disclosed. The transaction is currently awaiting approval from Austrian anti-trust authorities. All parties expect the acquisition to be finalised by the end of this year. After this, GeoPost will be DPD Austria’s second largest shareholder. GeoPost holds about 85% in the DPD franchisor organization.

Seur: international business forms basis for optimistic outlook

Spanish express company Seur has increased its sales revenues by 8.1% compared to the same period last year and remains bullish regarding its full year turnover. Seur’s positive outlook seems well founded: its alliance with France’s GeoPost has been particularly successful, driving significant growth in Seur’s international business.

Seur has also announced that the company foresees reaching E544.6 million turnover for the whole of fiscal 2004, which would represent a 9% increase year-on-year. This growth will be driven by increased sales from the company’s international business.

DPD in Lithuania and Poland

GeoPost acquired the Lithuanian high-capacity CEP service provider Baltic Logistic System on 1 September. The latter operates under the DPD/Bizpak brand. The partnership will assume a concrete form this month with the opening of a DPD distribution centre equipped with cutting edge technology in Vilnius. The facility – the first semi-automatic depot in the Baltic states – enables DPD and GeoPost to significantly raise efficiency, service quality in parcel handling and distribution.
