The Swedish postal services company Posten Sverige AB said on Wednesday (13 August) that it had signed a partnership agreement with Hongkong Post. The agreement involved the design and printing in Sweden of a joint postage stamp series, Shorebirds and Seabirds, Posten said. The stamps will have different denominations in Sweden and Hong Kong.

Once in place, the $11 million system will be the most advanced of its kind in the world. The first seven digits of a postcode are randomly generated for a specific delivery point. The last one enables machines to pick up input errors at the first point of entry.

THE Post Office’s twice-a-day delivery should be reduced to one to help offset an operating loss of HK$103 million last fiscal year, the government’s Audit Report has suggested.
Director of Audit Dominic Chan said yesterday the move would save HK$38.2 million by redeploying 133 postmen.
