Hungary Will Privatize Postabank

The state privatisation agency, APV Rt, will announce an open tender for a majority stake or the totality of the state-owned shares in Postabank, the country’s only commercial bank yet to be sold to foreign investors, the Nepszava daily reported, citing the national post office Magyar Posta Rt. Magyar Posta will have to privatise Postabank ‘as quickly as possible’ under a decision by the finance ministry and the state privatisation agency, post office head Gyoergy Csaki said. ‘There has been no decision so far on how large a stake should be sold, or whether the purchase price would go to Magyar Posta or to the APV Rt,’ said Csaki.

Hungarian Government Will Sell Postabank

Hungary’s new government wants to find a buyer for state-owned Postabank Rt. within the next twelve months, Miklos Kamaras, chief executive of privatization agency APV Rt., told Napi Gazdasag. APV has made no decision yet on whether to relaunch talks with bidders of last year’s failed sale attempt or to call a new tender, Kamaras added.

TNT Hungary Reports Higher Sales

TNT Hungary, the Hungarian unit of Dutch delivery firm TNT Post Group, said on Wednesday sales grew six percent in 2001 to 4.4 billion forints ($16.28 million) and that it ended the year in profit, but did not provide details. EU approves Maersk/P&O Nedlloyd rail venture

European Union regulators have extended for three years anti-trust approval for a pioneering rail freight joint venture between Maersk Sealand and P&O Nedlloyd, saying it had broken the monopoly of state-owned railways for the transport of containers between north European ports and inland cargo terminals.
