Magyar Posta stretches out

Magyar Posta Rt, the state-owned postal monopoly, is stepping up efforts to evolve into a financial services center, leading some executives and analysts to express concern that the government is trying to increase its role in the market.
Magyar Posta’s Chairman and CEO István Kalmár told reporters last week that the firm intends to set up an insurance company, targeting civil servants and public sector employees. That is some 780,700 people, who currently work at institutions whose budgets are funded by the government, according to the Central Statistics Office (KSH).

IPC UNEX Results 2001 – Europe’s letter mail maintains a high-quality delivery

International Post Corporation (IPC) members maintained their high-quality delivery performance for international letters last year, despite disruptions to air transport and security alerts following the events of September 11.
During 2001, an average of 92 per cent of European air mail letters reached their final destination within three days of posting. According to quality of service monitoring results just released by IPC’s UNEX system, more Postal operators are now meeting EU targets on mail streams where few, or no direct transport links are available. During 2001, over three-quarters of the 306 country-to-country streams monitored by UNEX were achieving at least 85 per cent
of deliveries within three days, compared with just one-third in 1994 when monitoring began, and one half in 1997.

Hungarian Post Office to manage internet public procurement system for 10 years

The Hungarian Post Office has been granted concession rights to carry out public procurement on the internet for 10 years. The electronic public procurement system will operate as a market place. The system was introduced to the public by Istvan Stumpf, minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, and Istvan Kalmar, director-general of the Hungarian Post Office.

Hungarian Post Office bids for all shares of state-owned Postabank

The Hungarian Post Office Rt has made an open bid for the purchase of all shares of [the state-owned] Postabank Rt at 180 per cent of their nominal value. The bid, which was published in Magyar Toekepiac [Hungarian Stock Market] today, has not yet been approved by the state supervision of financial institutions.
