Mexico DHL to invest USD50 Mln 2005-2007

DHL plans to invest USD50 mln (39.2 mln euro) for the period from 2005 to 2007 to expand in Mexico, DHL official Martin Alvarez said on February 8, 2005. DHL plans to increase its fleet to 1,200 vehicles, to increase the number of its branches from the current 900, and to to carry out a technology upgrade. The company also plans to improve its customer relationship management (CRM) through the expansion of its CRM centre in Mexico’s capital, which is the company’s third most important on a global level, after the two located in the USA. DHL’s sales in Mexico grew between 15 pct and 20 pct year-on-year in 2004 and are expected to register a similar increase in 2005, Alvarez added.

FedEx Custom Critical launches surface expedite services for Mexico

FedEx Custom Critical, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. is expanding its portfolio to include surface expedite services to and from Mexico. This service provides customers with time-specific freight deliveries to and from Mexico, the United States and Canada. FedEx Custom Critical provides the transportation services for the U.S. and Canadian portions of these shipments, with premium carriers in Mexico handling the exclusive-use transit south of the US border. “Extending our surface expedite capabilities into Mexico adds another dimension to the solutions we can offer our customers,” said Virginia Albanese, vice president of service for FedEx Custom Critical.

US Postal Service expands reach of money transfer service

Sure Money(R), the Postal Service’s international wire transfer service, also called Dinero Seguro(R), has expanded its reach to Latin America and the Caribbean.

Available to Mexico since 1996, Sure Money now provides customers with the ability to transfer money to nine additional countries. They are the Caribbean country of the Dominican Republic; and the Latin American countries of Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Peru. “Postal money orders have long been a favorite way for people to send money to friends and relatives internationally,” says Chief Marketing Officer Anita Bizzotto. “And Sure Money provides an electronic alternative that reduces the time it takes to receive the funds from days to minutes.”

DHL announces USD150mn in investments in Mexico

DHL announced Wednesday that it will invest a total of USD150 million in Mexico to increase the size of its fleet, remodel its operating and express centers, improve communications schemes, customer relations and publicity. The company is still the number one delivery firm in Mexico despite the fierce competition in the market. It has a quarter of the local market. Leticia Navarro, director general of DHL in Mexico, said that the firm has managed to expand its network to 228 countries, which means that it now serves 650,000 destinations and has 71,000 workers around the globe. In Mexico alone, DHL has 25,000 employees working in 140 express centers.

Deutsche Post expands network in Latin America

Deutsche Post World Net’s specialist for international mail service Deutsche Post Global Mail und the Mexican post office SePoMex signed a strategic partnership agreement in Mexico City yesterday. Deutsche Post will expand its infrastructure in Latin America with this collaboration and gain a reliable partner for its mail import and export operations with SePoMex. The agreement will also give SePoMex access to Global Mail’s international network.

The agreement covers the operation of a mail sorting center in Mexico City which will be made available specifically for this cooperation. At this mail hub, SePoMex will prepare mail for export and hand it over to Deutsche Post Global Mail for worldwide dispatch. Deutsche Post Global Mail will feed inbound mail from throughout the world into the SePoMex network through this production center where the Mexican post office will sort, transport and then deliver it nationwide.
