DHL forms association with Mexican Bancomext

Jorge Ehnrenwald, director of Marketing at DHL, said that the mail company has formed an association with the National Foreign Trade Bank (Bancomext) in order to provide integral logistics solutions for small and medium-sized companies.

The executive said that the association was part of a project that DHL and Bancomext have been working on since 2002. He also mentioned that when a small company approaches Bancomext for advice on transport of goods, it will be directed towards DHL who will try to come up with solutions.

DHL to invest USD40million in Mexico

DHL announced investments of USD40mil to develop its operations in Mexico including infrastructure, maintenance, new systems, and opening of logistics units. The figure doubles the investments made in 2003, while DHL’s 2004 turnover is to increase by 15percent. A strategic agreement with the export-import bank Bancomext would allow it to tap a larger number of small & medium sized exporting companies, adding to the 12,000 corporate customers already on its portfolio. Prospects for 2004 include a 12percent -15percent increase on the packages turnover to 45,000 per day to domestic and international destinations.

When Mexico’s Congress meets for its next session in September, lawmakers are to revive a bill submitted two years ago that will pit supporters of free-market competition against defenders of state industry. The proposal would hand the letter carriers at Servicio Postal Mexicano (Sepomex), Mexico’s state-run post office, a virtual monopoly on all packages weighing 350 grams or less, except in cases where private firms offer premium services like tracking or digital signatures or if their pricing is at least double the state company’s fee.

Mexican Sepomex signs agreement with Deutsche Post Global

The Mexican Postal Service (Sepomex) will soon be signing an agreement with the German mail company Deutsche Post Global, forming an international business alliance which will help Mexico increase its sales and globalize its services, stated Gustavo Islas, general director of Sepomex.

The official stated that with this agreement and the one Sepomex recently signed with the United States Postal Service (USPS), the company will be able to boost its profitability in just the next year or two. In addition Mexico will likely attract new business related to mail services as Deutsche Post is the owner of the US packing and correspondence firm DHL.
