UPS to start providing financial services in Mexico

United Parcel Service (UPS), the largest parcel delivery company in the world, will start supplying financial services for medium-sized Mexican companies through First International Bank (FIB), a company of UPS Capital. First International Bank will supply financial services, such as loans with government guarantees, financing for equipment, capital job loans and financing of imports and exports.

Mexican Postal Service to be overhauled

The Mexican Postal Service (Sepomex) and Mexico Telegraph (Telecom) over the next two years will be profoundly restructured, reported Mexico City daily Reforma. Costs will be reduced, the government subsidy will be eliminated, and the workforce will be reduced by 25 percent, with the goal of making the companies’ financially independent before 2005.

Mexican Postal Service strategy

Among the Mexican Postal Service’s strategies to pull itself out of financial ruin are plans to offer banking services at its client attention services, and to force private courier companies to comply with the law, said Communications and Transport ministry senior official Jorge Alvarez. The idea would be for the nation’s banks to automate Mexico’s more than 1,800 post offices in order to provide their services and improve the quality of the mail.
