Pos Malaysia seeks alliances with ASEAN posts

Pos Malaysia Bhd is looking at business alliances and collaboration with postal organizations of Asean nations to strengthen its competitiveness and enhance its postal delivery service. Chairman, Datuk Ikmal Hijaz Hashim said projects planned with the Asean postal organizations included joint marketing strategies on express mail services, promotion of parcel services and joint stamp and philatelic products among the Asean countries. “Pos Malaysia is also upgrading its international remittances services to speed up payment transaction,” he said at a press conference after the launch of the 12th Asean Postal Business Meeting. Ikmal said Pos Malaysia non-postal services such as payment of utilities and remittance services were growing as a significant contributor to group’s turnover. He said the current de-pegging of the ringgit would also be positive to Pos Malaysia as it would help to lower operating cost structure.

Malaysia’s Khazanah buys 6.3 pct of Pos Malaysia

State owned investment arm Khazanah Nasional Bhd has bought a 6.3 pct stake in Pos Malaysia & Services Holdings Bhd for an undisclosed price, emerging as a new substantial shareholder in the postal company. In a filing to the Exchange, Khazanah said it bought 31.92 mln shares from the open market on June 3. No other details were given.

Pos Malaysia to expand courier service business to Southeast Asia

Pos Malaysia & Services Holdings Bhd intends to expand its courier service business to the 1.2 bln usd market in Southeast Asia and beyond, the Star reported.

It cited Pos Malaysia Managing Director Ikmal Hijaz Hashim as saying the business is a major growth area for the company, as its courier service PosLaju National Courier already accounts for 20 pct of group sales.

Pos Malaysia forging regional alliances

Pos Malaysia & Services Holdings Bhd is setting up strategic alliances with private logistics and postal companies in East Asia to tap into the region’s courier market worth an estimated USD1.2 billion (RM4.56 billion) a year, says group managing director Datuk Ikmal Hijaz Hashim. He said the company had identified its potential partners and hoped to seal the alliances and begin transporting packages for them in the first half of 2005. “We are currently looking at Thailand, South Korea, China and Hong Kong,” he said after the company’s EGM in Kuala Lumpur on Dec 16.

Pos M’sia to buy 20% of Transmile for RM253m

POS Malaysia Bhd, the country’s national postal company, said it will buy 20.3 per cent of Transmile Group Bhd for RM253.1 million (SD115 million) in stock and cash to expand its activities and boost earnings. Pos Malaysia, already a client of Transmile, will pay the equivalent of RM6.25 a share for the stake, the company said in a statement to the stock exchange. That’s a 12 per cent discount to the airfreight delivery company’s last traded price.
