European postal companies call for complete liberalisation in 2009

Chief Executive Officers of national postal companies in the Netherlands, Sweden, Finland and Germany have started a joint initiative for a complete opening of the postal markets in Europe by 2009. In a policy paper addressed to Internal Market Commissioner Charlie McCreevy, CEOs Peter Bakker (TNT), Erik Olsson (Posten AB), Jukka Alho (Finland Post Corporation) and Klaus Zumwinkel (Deutsche Post World Net) plead for a sustainable postal sector in the next decades that should be realised by a complete market liberalisation by 2009 and the modernisation of the universal service.

Posten interim report January – March 2004

Posten’s Q1 2004 earnings improved visibly compared to the same period last year. The dramatically negative cash flow turned positive for the quarter as well as for the previous 12-month period. Over the past year Posten has strategised and reorganised the business to enhance simplicity and clarity. Posten’s first-quarter results bear out these decisions. Posten AB to cut 250 administrative positions before summer

The Swedish postal services company Posten AB have announced it will reduce the number of administrative staff by 250 before the summer.

The job cuts are part of a comprehensive reorganisation of Posten’s operations initiated in 2003 and are to be effected within the central administration.

Swedish Posten AB signs agreement with Amapola Flyg AB

The Swedish postal services company Posten AB said on the 18th December that it has signed a cooperation agreement with the air transport company Amapola Flyg AB, a subsidiary of Salenia AB.

Under the terms of the agreement Amapola Flyg will gradually take over domestic air mail operations from Posten’s subsidiary Falcon Air AB.

The transfer of operations is to be completed during 2006 when Falcon Air’s aircraft leasing agreement ends.
