Postcomm Determination Progressing

Business Post announces that its subsidiary, UK Mail Ltd, has received from the Postal Services Commission (“Postcomm”), the independent postal industry regulator, Postcomm’s confidential draft proposal for the trading terms whereunder Royal Mail Group plc would provide access to its facilities for downstream sorting and delivery for UK Mail’s proposed business mail service in the UK.

German and Colombian companies to integrate parcel service

The German DHL company, which specializes in express air transport, and the Colombian parcel delivery service TCC have signed an agreement which will help the companies offer a more integrated service. In he first stage of the agreement will allow the TCC service centers to receive packages to be sent out of the country via DHL. This will extend the range of countries to which TCC can send packages. In the second stage, it is hoped, packages arriving via DHL will be delivered in Colombia by TCC. The Colombian company will transport 8.5mil packages this year, for an income of Pesos$100bil. DHL is active in 220 countries and has 71,000 employees.

KPN in talks to outsource Logistics Ops to TPG

Royal KPN NV said it is in exclusive talks to outsource its KPN Logistics operations, which comprise all of KPN’s warehousing and transport activities in the Netherlands, to TPG NV.

Negotiations are expected to be completed before the end of the year, KPN said.

All 170 employees of KPN Logistics, which has annual sales of some 20 mln eur, will be transferred to TPG.

Postal Service to Reconsider Reorganization

The Swiss Postal Service declared on Wednesday that it will reconsider its controversial decision to reform its mail processing system. As its CEO, Ulrich Gygi, told media representatives in Berne, after talks with the trade unions the Postal Service has decided to examine alternatives to a project which would reduce the present 18 letter-sorting centers to only three facilities. The Federal Department of Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (UVEK), along with most political parties, welcomed the decision. By concentrating its mail processing activities, the Postal Service was hoping to save some Sfr. 200 million annually – but the change would have cost about 3,500 employees their jobs.
