Walmart opens e-commerce fulfilment centre in Indiana
Walmart has opened a new e-commerce fulfilment centre in Plainfield, which is now serving consumers in Indiana and throughout the US. Indiana Governor Mike Pence attended the official opening of the new 1.2 million square foot building last Wednesday (12 August).
“Some of the most sophisticated technology we’re building comes to life in this building, and enables us to ship orders to customers quickly and cost-efficiently,” said Neil Ashe, chief executive officer, Walmart Global eCommerce.
Walmart’s Plainfield e-commerce fulfilment centre became operational in July and will add additional capacity in the coming months before the holiday season.
Walmart announced its second quarter (Q2) results today (18 August) – which included the news that its e-commerce sales globally increased approximately 16% on a constant currency basis. Gross merchandise value, or GMV, increased approximately 18% on a constant currency basis.
