Yamato looking to expand delivery workforce

Japan’s Yamato Holding is planning to take on more than 9,000 new workers over the coming year, according to local sources. According to reports in The Japan News and the Asia Nikkei Review, there will be a fairly even split between full-time and part-time workers.

As previously reported, Yamato has reportedly been feeling the strain of meeting Japanese consumers’ ever-growing demand for e-commerce deliveries.

On Friday, Yamato published its results for the year ended 31 March, which showed an operating revenue of 1,466,852m yen, up 3.6% on the previous year. Operating income, however, was down 49% at 34,885m yen.
