Russia’s Postal Service gets USD215 mln retail sales

The retail sales turnover of Russia’s Federal Postal Service amounted to USD215 million in 2003, the press service of the Russian Post state company reported.

No comparison was provided.

The most effective sales were registered in the constituent republic of Buryatia, where each post office sells goods worth a total of 1,560 rubles daily, almost three times more than the average.

Russian Post said sales of photographic goods in post offices are the most profitable business right now.

The profit margin of these operations rose 129% in January-April as compared with the same period last year.

Russian Post expects a breakthrough in retail sales in 2006-2007, when the range of products for sale at post offices will be standardized and customers will get used to the idea that besides postal services, you can purchase certain consumer goods at a post office.
