DHL increases capacity on Hong Kong – Shanghai service
DHL, one of the world’s leading express and logistics company, will increase payload capacity on its Hong Kong-Shanghai and Hong Kong-Manila services in response to increasing demand and surging intra-Asia volumes.
DHL has announced that with effect from Tuesday, capacity on the Hong Kong-Shanghai service will be increased by 60 percent and operated by an Airbus A300B4 freighter with a capacity of 35 tons.
The service frequency will also be increased from four to five times weekly — Monday through Thursday and Saturday southbound while Tuesday through Friday and Sunday northbound.
In a related development, DHL will also upgrade the payload capacity on the Hong Kong-Manila service, which will be operated by an Airbus A330-300 four times weekly from Monday to Thursday.
Better-than-expected volumes and the robust growth in intra- Asian shipments fueled by the recovery of regional economies have necessitated the need for the increased payload capacity, said Ross Allen, regional network director, Asia Pacific, DHL Express.
The Hong Kong-Shanghai and Hong Kong-manila services are part of DHL’s Asian Air Network which connects capital cities and other major business centers in the region via the company’s Central Asia Hub in Hong Kong and other DHL regional hubs and gateways, offering DHL’s customers overnight services across Asia and Pacific.
DHL’s regional air network in Asia Pacific currently comprises 25 destinations in 16 countries and is served by 40 dedicated cargo services and over 800 commercial flights daily.
