TNT Express invests EUR 14 million in Duiven International road hub

TNT Express – the world’s leading B2B express delivery company – has today announced a €14.3 million investment plan to expand capacity and upgrade facilities at its European road hub in Duiven, the Netherlands.

The planned expansion – to be completed by October 2005 – follows a significant increase in volumes since the hub first started operating in 1998. It will create around 100 new jobs over the next five years and clearly confirms the company’s commitment to the local area and to the development of its most important international road hub which handles 126,000 consignments and 5,700 tonnes of freight weekly.

The investment plan includes:
? Increased hub sortation space from 16,500 m² to 20,000 m²
? Sorting capacity will be doubled to 11,000 pieces per hour
? Extended office space and truck parking
? Increased number of loading docks from 80 to 116
? Improvements to staff and driver facilities

Additionally, the investment plan includes the purchasing of 25,000 m² of land adjacent to the hub to accommodate potential future expansion.

Christian Drenthen, Managing Director, Worldwide Networks, TNT Express, said: “This is a significant investment in one of the most important components of our global infrastructure. Increased capacity and better facilities at the European Road Network will play a key role in helping us achieve our strategic objective of being the leading European express company.”
