Claude Béglé to join DHL Express

Claude Béglé, 56, will assume the role of Chief Operating Officer for DHL Express Germany and will also be Managing Director DHL Express Central Europe, responsible for Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia and Slovakia.
Béglé will be joining DHL, the global market leader in express and logistics, after having spent several years successfully building an international network and managing the Geopost International Division. He has been a Board Member of the Geopost group since 1999 and the Chairman of the European DPD organisation. Both Geopost and DPD are subsidiaries of the French La Poste.
His predecessors at DHL have meanwhile taken new esponsibilities. Marco Demuth, 46, in September was appointed Head of Sales and a Member of the Divisional Board MAIL Germany. Chris Muntwyler, 52, previously Managing Director DHL Express Central Europe, in August became Managing Director of DHL Express UK.
In his new position, Claude Béglé will report to Peter E. Kruse, Management Board member of Deutsche Post World Net and CEO of DHL Express Europe.

Shock as GeoPost CEO defects to DHL
05 October 2005, Transport Intelligence

After a period of intense speculation, it has been announced that Claude Béglé, one of the leading figures in the European Express world, has moved from French parcels company GeoPost, part of the La Poste group, to Deutsche Post World Net.

The move is set to send shockwaves throughout the industry as Béglé was one of its most high profile executives. He led GeoPost’s successful European, and increasingly global, expansion through the DPD brand.

Béglé, 56, will assume the role of Chief Operating Officer for DHL Express Germany and will also become Managing Director DHL Express Central Europe, responsible for Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia and Slovakia.

No official reason has been given for the move. However it has been speculated that there was a power struggle in the La Poste organization and a difference of opinion existed on the issue of centralization. Béglé, as a non-French national, was believed to be increasingly sidelined, despite his success in creating the GeoPost and DPD networks.

GeoPost had just embarked on a new strategy of international expansion, which may be affected by the move. Without Béglé to drive forward the growth of the company, DPD may settle for a period of consolidation within Europe.

DHL will be highly satisfied to have attracted Béglé to its organization. Not only does the appointment strengthen its operation in a highly significant growth market, but there is a strong possibility that Béglé may be being groomed to take a much higher role.
