Just Eat Takeaway.com pilots grocery delivery via its own convenience store in Berlin
The Just Eat Takeaway.com online food delivery marketplace has launched a pilot grocery and convenience delivery operation via its own dark store in Berlin.
In a statement issued today (2 August), the company said the Berlin pilot follows on from the nationwide rollout of a similar model in Canada called Skip Express Lane.
In Berlin, the new Lieferando Express service will leverage Just Eat Takeaway.com’s extensive network of thousands of employed couriers across the city. The service is initially available in a 2 kilometre range from the dark store located in Berlin Charlottenburg and the company said it is “targeting a delivery time of approximately 20 minutes”.
Working directly with a range of local vendors and companies such as ROY Kombucha, Berliner Kaffeerösterei and Zeit für Brot, Lieferando Express will offer over 1,000 products, ranging from fresh fruits and bread to household cleaning and baby products.
Andrew Kenny, interim COO at Just Eat Takeaway.com, commented: “Grocery and convenience represent an incremental market opportunity that further enhances our consumer proposition, drives networking effects and brand loyalty, and improves our delivery fleet utilisation. After a successful roll-out in Canada, the pilot store in Berlin will provide us with more insight about the market potential in Europe.”
