A second international parcel firm has signed up for a unit at Kingmoor Park, Carlisle, as the site continues to defy the economic downturn.
The unnnamed company is expected to move on to the industrial estate, north of the city, later this year. The news comes just weeks after Kingmoor chiefs revealed Geopost is to open a base there.
Kingmoor chief executive Tony Goddard said the number of firms inquiring about moving to Carlisle is “surprisingly high”, despite the recession.
It was revealed in December that Geopost’s DPD operation will take a unit at the site and is expected to create scores of warehouse and driver jobs.
DPD is the business-to-business delivery arm of GeoPost UK, which also owns the Interlink parcel courier service.
Kingmoor Park will spend about £500,000 to prepare for DPD’s arrival, including dividing a 42,000sq ft unit in two and installation of gas, water and electricity services.
A new access road will also be built, with yard areas extended for parking and loading two new loading doors installed.
