Hermes announces Christmas boom

Despite the economic gloom, Hermes has seen a dramatic increase in deliveries over the peak Christmas period compared to the previous year. As a result, Hermes’ overall volume was up by 26.2%, with more than 10m consignments delivered during the month of December on behalf of leading high-street, online and catalogue retailers.

In fact, Hermes experienced a total of 10 record days of deliveries over the course of December, handling more than 500,000 items on three different occasions. 10 December was the busiest day of the month with more than 510,000 parcels delivered to homes across the UK, representing an increase of 21% over 2008 peak.

Carole Woodhead, CEO of Hermes in the UK, said: “We now work with an increasing number of retailers within the UK, and handle more than 110m parcels each year. The supply chain is a critical part of any retail operation, especially during the Christmas period, and our flexible, high-quality approach is making us partner of choice for final mile home deliveries.

“We work closely with our customers to monitor performance levels and initial feedback suggests that we have maintained our service standard throughout the peak trading period to provide a first-rate consumer experience.”
