Unattended access 'for under £20' – Home Delivery
Unattended access ‘for under £20’
An unattended home-delivery solution costing consumers just £20 – that’s the tantalising proposition being put forward by AHome4it, a new contender in this increasingly crowded market.
The company’s system is one of the type that offer delivery staff controlled, time-constrained access to existing consumer premises – for instance house, garage, outhouse or shed. In hardware terms, the system is contained in a box about the size of a typical entryphone, complete with a digital electronic keypad.
Patents have been taken out on the technology, but managing director Tom Jarman is remaining guarded about revealing exactly how it works or what’s inside the box until manufacturing and funding arrangements have been completed. What is known is that that a “coordinating database” will release short-duration, delivery-specific codes for authorised access. We understand that some form of remote communication is used to pass these codes to the device, but Jarman says only that “there is some very clever technology involved.”
Jarman, a former business executive who resigned to pursue this new project, says he “is confident that per customer costs will be kept below £20.” If achievable, such a price could give a welcome boost to the appeal of remote shopping. Jarman says he is keen to attract partners to take the system to production and full roll-out, and can be contacted on [email protected].
