Norway Post acquires Swedish logistics firm IntertranspedIA
Norway Post has strengthened its presence in neighbouring Sweden with the acquisition of a logistics business that will boost its cross-border transportation between the Nordic countries and the Balkans. It has acquired Swedish firm IntertranspedIA this week, which will now be combined with Norway Post’s CombiTrans AB unit.
The acquisition includes the Ytrans business, a logistics subsidiary of IntertranspedIA acquired by that company in 2007.
CombiTrans is part of Norway Post’s freight division, Bring Cargo, which earlier this year acquired another Swedish logistics business, Coldsped, from Deutsche Bahn subsidiary Schenker AB.
IntertranspedIA itself has been operating since the year 2000, and along with its subsidiary has an international operation transporting materials to Central and Eastern Europe, as far as Turkey.
Norway Post said the company and its subsidiary have an annual turnover of around 200m SEK ($29.1m USD).
“The acquisition is part of the Group’s strategic investment in Sweden, and means that we strengthen our position in cross-border transportation to and from the Nordic countries,” said Norway Post CEO Day Mejdell.
Network
The CombiTrans trucking network covers the whole of Europe, particularly specialising in Eastern Europe and the Balkans, reaching into Central Asia and the Middle East. It dispatches around 16,000 vehicles a year, handling around 94,000 consignments of freight each year.
The acquisition of Ystad-based IntertranspedIA, which is subject to approval by competition authorities, will mean combining “two successful businesses” with with CombiTrans, said Mejdell.
Ingemar Andersson, the outgoing CEO and owner of IntertranspedIA and Ytrans, said of the acquisition: “It is entirely appropriate to integrate the business with CombiTrans, and ensures that our future is even stronger.
Andersson added: “We are now in a professional and expansive logistics environment, where we can continue our good performance.”
