Royal Mail could be sued over daily failings
THE Royal Mail could face legal action after failing to make daily deliveries to thousands of homes around the country.
PostWatch, the industry watchdog, claims that in some areas the service is so bad that households receive only one weekly delivery.
It has threatened to take Consignia, the new name of the Royal Mail, to court for failing to meet its legal obligations.
A spokesman said: ‘We have sought legal advice because Consignia is failing in its duty as set out in section 58 of the Postal Services Act 2000.
‘Each post-box has to have a collection a day and each household is entitled to one delivery a day. We are trying to resolve the situation without having to sue.’
A Royal Mail spokesman said: ‘We have made a lot of effort in some of the areas that PostWatch have cited and things have improved since earlier this year.’
PostWatch identified the areas with the worst deliveries as Bath, Northampton, Bognor Regis in West Sussex, Wokingham and Slough in Berkshire, and Fareham and Southampton in Hampshire.
