Palletways express network cuts transit time to Germany
Express freight network Palletways is aiming to “significantly” grow its share of international volumes by cutting delivery times from the UK to Germany. The company said from March, its existing 72-hour offering will see palletised freight delivered to Germany within just 48 hours.
The transit improvement comes thanks to the EUR 5m hub Palletways established last year in Homberg, central Germany. Previously, German express cargo was routed through the network hub in Nijmegen, Holland.
Freight collected in the UK will be assembled at the Palletways hub in Lichfield, Staffordshire, before being transported direct to the German hub for sorting prior to final distribution.
The service run by the international arm of UK firm Palletways, Palletways Europe GmbH, is supported by pan-European IT infrastructure, the company said.
Palletways said it has a wider strategy to grow its international business after significant gains in recent years. The new German hub is seen as a gateway to Eastern Europe for Palletways as it pursues further cross-border growth.
Martyn Young, managing director of Palletways UK, said: “This service offers both our UK member companies and customers the opportunity to open up new business prospects in the fastest growing market in Europe. It also further underlines our commitment to be the leading international pallet delivery network.”
Operating since 1994, the Palletways network brings together around 300 independent logistics businesses under a single system. The group went international in 2005, and first launched in Germany in 2009.
