Hynes to retire from An Post next year

State postal group An Post today announced that chief executive John Hynes is to retire at the end of his current contract in July 2003.

Hynes, who has been with An Post since 1990, is one of the longest serving heads of a commercial state enterprise.
In a statement today, Hynes said he informed An Post chairman Stephen O’Connor of his decision now so that an orderly process could be initiated to ensure a smooth transition.

“An Post has a strong management team, committed staff and unions and the company enjoys the trust and respect of the Irish public. The company has a good future and I wish my successor well,” said Hynes.

O’Connor thanked Hynes for the “significant contribution” which he had made to An Post over his years as chief executive.
