Flying visit

Flying visit

Amazon recently gave an exclusive tour of its Cambridge-based drone development facilities to a specially invited audience from the media and the educational sector. The media in question was the local paper “Cambridge News” and the educational sector was represented by eight children from nearby Steeple Morden School.

As previously reported, Amazon has reached an agreement with the UK government and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to conduct delivery drone tests.

Cambridge is home to the largest outdoor testing facility in the UK.

The schoolchildren were shown Prime Air drone prototypes and even given the chance to fly drones themselves.

While Amazon has been developing its drone testing programme in the UK, fellow internet giant Google/Alphabet’s Project Wing has focused on testing in the US.

As previously reported, Amazon has also been doing much of its drone development work at its R&D centre in Graz, Austria.
