Royal Mail opening six temporary parcel sort centres

Royal Mail is opening six temporary parcel sort centres for the Christmas period. The parcel sort centres are in: Atherstone near Tamworth; Bathgate in West Lothian; Bristol; Greenford in West London; Normanton in West Yorkshire; and Warrington. The Atherstone centre will handle UK and international  parcels. The centres will open on a phased basis from the end of this month.

Around 3,300 seasonal workers will be based in the parcel sort centres. They will support Royal Mail’s 120,000 permanent  postmen and women.

The group is taking on 20,000 seasonal workers in total this year across its operations and has set up a dedicated website (www.royalmailgroup.com/xmasjobs) for people to apply for positions in the centres and at other sites across the UK.

This is the seventh year that Royal Mail has opened a dedicated network of parcel sort centres. Last year, Royal Mail handled around 130 million parcels during the Christmas rush.
