Ford and Postmates testing autonomous delivery in Miami

Ford and Postmates are reportedly set to run tests in Miami and Miami Beach using autonomous vehicles to make on-demand deliveries.

As previously reported by Post&Parcel, the car maker and on-demand delivery specialist announced their intention to work together and run pilot programmes back in January.

Postmates is, of course, known as a company which uses “crowdsourced” delivery personnel – and while it is exploring the possibilities of autonomy, it is likely that people power will remain the linchpin of its business for some time to come.

In a blog posted in January, the company set out its position: ““While we’re excited to research the potential of self-driving technology, it’s important to note that our walkers, drivers, and bicyclists make up the largest on-demand delivery fleet in the country — and they will always be core to our platform. Our first commitment is to always prioritize what benefit can be realized by our customers, our fleet of Postmates and our merchant partners.”
